| To move this project to Low Rate Initial Production (LRIP) and allow the introduction of the technology into Fleet operations, the request is $5M. The additional funds will support LRIP and the manufacturing of deployable SWMA units, supporting operational shipboard testing, expansion of diagnostics and logistics functionality. Congressional support will ensure the Navy is able to position the SWMA and its critically needed technology for adoption into its program operational cycle, anticipated in 2011. Today's Sailors are operating in very demanding time sensitive environments using maintenance and logistics tools dating from the pre-1970's timeframe. Feedback from Naval users indicates that SWMA technology is not only timely, but is also focused exactly where it needs to be on the valid mission-operational needs of the Sailor. The deployment of SWMA technology will provide the backbone for enhanced productivity, and give the Sailor operating in intense mission-critical environments, the tools required to ensure combat readiness. It is anticipated that manufacturing will begin in CY2010, and for the program to generate 254 manufacturing jobs along with 10 to 15 highly skilled engineering jobs for Michigan, with total revenue of approximately $100 million by 2014. |
