The Detroit-Wayne County Community Mental Health (CMH) Agency will partner with the DOD
to address the incidence of combat trauma and increasing rates of suicide among returning
soldiers from Iraq and Afghanistan. The CMH Agency is uniquely positioned to help soldiers by
utilizing a recovery model for mental health care, particularly in providing crisis outpatient
services for the greater Detroit area. Establishing a partnership program and addressing the
needs of soldiers will reduce the stigma of mental illness. The program will provide education
and awareness of mental health needs and interventional services, yielding a decrease in
suicide and family violence through access to mental health services for returning soldiers. The
partnership program could serve as a model program for counties across the United States
