Value to Michigan’s 15th Congressional District and the American taxpayer:
To provide a specialized unit to prosecute metal theft and "scrapping" cases. Metal theft or "scrapping" is a growing threat to the overall welfare and Homeland Security of Metro Detroit. The rising price of copper and metals, numerous vacant and foreclosed homes along with soaring unemployment rates makes scrapping a popular and financially rewarding crime. The theft of live phone and power lines is extremely dangerous to the community and puts peoples' lives at risk.
