| This auxiliary power unit development initiative will have immediate and long-term impact on creating scientific and skilled-labor positions for the State of Michigan. We anticipate the immediate hiring of as many as 10 Engineering Graduates with expertise in energy technologies. Once a prototype manufacturing facility is established in the 2010-2012 time frame, it will employ approximately 30 people. At pilot-scale operation of a reformer/SOFC APU manufacturing plant, the expected number of employees will increase to about 150 – 250. Mass manufacturing at full-scale production could employ several thousand autoworkers. A preliminary market analysis in collaboration with the UM Business School and the Zell-Lurie Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies indicates a military market of $ 8 million per year, a truck aftermarket of $ 290 million/year, and a total potential market of $2.9 billion/year. |
