Value to Michigan’s 15th Congressional District and the American taxpayer:
This project will greatly benefit caregivers and their family members who have chosen Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County as their retirement community. AARP’s magazine recently reviewed 50 cities in America and named Ann Arbor the most vital cities for older Americans. This project will fund an innovative and collaborative approach to caregiver support, as well as contribute to the advancement of needed policy development through the conduct of research and the exchange of best practices.  For the past fourteen years, Jewish Family Services has been providing critical health and social services to Washtenaw community residents, particularly to those ordinarily underserved or at-risk. From youth to older adult services, JFS of Washtenaw serve a diverse population, whose needs transcend race, religion, ethnic origin, age and gender. The JFS Innovative Family Caregivers Support Demonstration Project would apply their extensive network and experience to respond to community members on the frontline of our care for the burgeoning older adult population. This is particularly true of Ann Arbor, as it is at the forefront of communities where people remain or move to when they retire.
