Value to Michigan’s 15th Congressional District and the American taxpayer:
Funding is requested for the construction of a medically secure unit on the 12th floor of the C.S. Mott Children’s & Women’s Hospital to provide the opportunity for isolation of pandemic/bioterrorism victims. The 39,000-square-foot area will feature 32 private rooms, 300 square feet each and would be under negative air pressure for isolation care. The entire new hospital could provide surge capacity in the case of a serious infectious event.  No such unit currently exists in Michigan.
