| Upon successful project completion, a robust supply chain to provide locally produced components and systems, value added features creating additional demand, and functional Plug- In Hybrid Vehicle (PHEV's) will be developed. The PHEV's with locally produced components (which are transferable to other systems of need by the DoD including electric motors, drives, batteries, and control systems for multiple devices) will provide the DoD access to robust, low cost, and available technologies will serve the needs of not only the U.S. military but homeland security and civilian challenges for fuel, and power as well. The NextEnergy Center (NEC) is a non-profit corporation that serves as a catalyst for the commercialization of energy technologies and has positively contributed to Michigan's economic competitiveness, energy security and the environment. NextEnergy serves as a science and engineering incubator attracting high-technology companies and associated research and manufacturing jobs. NEC assists Michigan's government, Universities and economic development leaders and is attracting, nurturing and retaining alternative energy businesses and employment opportunities in the State. The use of Smart PHEV's will result in better use of fuel consumed by â€oeidling― on-site vehicles which could serve as electrical power generators when not being used for transportation. This project will aid in fostering energy independence, creating green manufacturing jobs and improving the economy. |
