| This project seeks $1 Million toward the $2.5 Million restoration. It was part of an Historic District until a lawsuit against the City voided it. The A2 Historic Commission has sought to make it a one building Historic District & will assist in seeking Federal Historic Status. It now houses several non-profit and arts businesses. When completed it will have 12 studios for arts oriented non-profits and commercial arts studios and galleries. Local funds will come from investment and tax credits. The Anson Brown Building is the oldest commercial building in Ann Arbor. In the 1820s Anson Brown built a dam, waterwheel & powerplant on the Huron River, founding the modern City of Ann Arbor. To this day there is still a DTE Energy power station. In 1832 he built his business office next to the power plant, now called the Anson Brown Bldg. Now partially abandoned it's in need of significant restortation. Plans include sustainable design. |
