Dingell Statement On Senate Passing Food Safety Legislation

Washington, D.C. – Dean of the U.S. House of Representatives, John D. Dingell (MI-15), issued a statement this evening on Senate passage of the food safety bill:

"I was excited to hear the news of Senate passage of the food safety bill this evening. I commend my colleagues for their persistence and cooperation. This legislation has seen more procedural fits and starts than any other. However, it continues to inch towards enactment. One step remains before the legislation reaches the President's desk. I am confident my colleagues in the House, both Democrats and Republicans, will rise to the occasion and get this strong piece of bipartisan legislation to the President's desk this week. When we do this the American people will be able to move forward without worries of unsafe food."
