Dingell Urges Continued Congressional Oversight of the FCC

Criticizes FCC’s Delays of Publicizing Agency Decisions

Washington, D.C. –U.S. Congressman John D. Dingell (D-MI15) issued the following statement today at the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Communications and Technology hearing on FCC Process Reform:

“Thank you, Mr. Chairman, for holding today’s hearing and continuing in this Committee’s grand tradition of oversight. I commend your initiative and look forward to addressing shortcomings in the Federal Communications Commission’s processes – should any come to light – via bipartisan action that ultimately serves the public good.

“For years, I have worked to improve transparency in the Commission’s decision making. The public has a right to know the contents of Commission decisions and that without undue delay. To that end, I will ask the Commission today for notice and explanation of unreasonable delays in its public release of agency decisions. I expect the Commission’s cooperation with this simple, yet reasonable, request because doing so will aid this Committee’s efforts to conduct rigorous oversight and improve the Commission’s public accountability.

“I thank you for your courtesy, Mr. Chairman, and yield back the balance of my time.”
