Dingell Applauds Michigan’s Comeback Efforts

Dearborn, Mich. – Today, U.S. Representative John D. Dingell (D-MI15) welcomed attendees at the opening ceremony of the Center for Automotive Research Roads to Renewal conference for automotive communities.  Below are his prepared remarks:

“Thank you for that kind introduction!  I’m thrilled to be here today, and you should be, too.  The Center for Automotive Research always puts on great events, and this one is no exception.

“I’m sure you’ll all learn a lot from today’s outstanding speakers, including Dave Andrea, Sean McAlinden, and my good friend, Mayor Jack O’Reilly of the great City of Dearborn.    You’re all here today to learn about attracting new investment, accessing capital, and workforce development.  I commend you for your strong interest in these issues because they will drive our country’s economic recovery.

“We’re in the biggest recession in generations and need your help to get the country out of it.   In fact, the private sector is already pulling its weight by having created over a million jobs in 2010.

“The Big Three are hiring again, turning profits, and selling technically advanced vehicles that consumers love.  Auto suppliers are making a comeback, too.  Right here in Michigan, an advanced battery industry is taking root that will someday soon make us competitive with Japan and South Korea.  But there’s more to be done, and that’s what you’re here to learn about.

“Making yourselves more attractive to investment and improving your ability to innovate will keep you competitive.  Moreover, promoting further training and education for your employees will benefit your companies and ensure that United States businesses remain a force to be reckoned with globally.

“I’ll conclude my remarks now, so you can hear from the real experts, but let me tell you again how pleased I am to be here this afternoon.   This is a great conference put on by great people, and you’ll benefit from it, I’m sure.  Thanks again, and I hope you find today productive and educational.”
