Washington, D.C. –Today, U.S. Representative John D. Dingell (D-MI15) issued the following statement to commend the White House for releasing their report on the auto industry and explaining why saving the industry has been a success:
“I commend the White House for releasing a thorough analysis of the domestic auto industry’s renaissance. It is no lie that expeditious, yet far-sighted, action by the Obama Administration saved Chrysler and General Motors from ruin, as well as averted a national economic catastrophe. Every American should read this report to understand just how integral the auto industry is to the broader national economy.
“This report aptly illustrates how auto companies and suppliers are creating new jobs, not only in Michigan, but also elsewhere in the country. In short, more and more Americans are finding work in the manufacturing sector, which has thus far led the United States’ recovery from recession. I will continue work with the Senate and the Administration on initiatives to reinvigorate our great Nation’s economy, particularly as they relate to ensuring our automotive industry’s and manufacturing sector’s global competitiveness.”
“American auto workers and companies built my state’s economy and this country’s middle class. Both deserved the federal government’s support in their time of need and it has proven a wise investment, as the White House’s report shows so very clearly.”
