DINGELL: STATEMENT ON TONIGHT'S SENATE VOTE TO KEEP THE GOVERNMENT FUNDED

Washington, D.C.
– U.S. Representative John D. Dingell (D-MI15) released the following statement tonight after the Senate voted to keep the government funded.  The Senate voted 79-12 to fund the government until November 18 and also passed a short-term continuing resolution until October 4:

"I am delighted to hear that a deal has been struck to keep the government running through the beginning of October.

"While I am comforted that this agreement was reached at the last hour, I am disappointed it is only for a week.  I regret that we are having to haggle with congressional Republicans who want to hold disaster relief hostage and score political points by gutting Section 136, a job-creating loan program at the Department of Energy.  We need to take care of both our injured in disasters and our future in terms of jobs and new technology.

"The American people are tired of brinkmanship and political rhetoric.  I call on my colleagues -- both Republican and Democratic -- to come together with open minds and a willingness to compromise in order pass a long term budget that will provide stability to our federal government and will preserve the long-term economic health of our Nation."
