Dearborn, MI – Today, as kids in Michigan go back to school, Congressman Dingell applauded the Michigan Primary Care Association’s award from the Department of Health & Human Services for $930,000 to increase enrollment in Michigan’s MiChild and Healthy Kids insurance programs. This money was made available through the Children’s Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act (CHIPRA) and the Affordable Care Act, of which Congressman Dingell was the principal author, which together provided $120 million in grants to promote enrollment strategies for children in CHIP and Medicaid. Congressman John D. Dingell (MI15) said Michigan Primary Care Association’s “Back to School Enrollment Campaign” will bring much needed help to Michigan’s families.
“Now more than ever, too many children in our state are eligible for free or reduced-cost health insurance programs, but their families are unaware about how to get them,” Dingell said. “Because of our work in Washington, the Michigan Primary Care Association can target these eligible families and help these children get a health insurance policy so they can get the care they need. This is welcome ‘back to school’ news for some of our most vulnerable kids and their parents.”
“The future of Michigan’s economy rests on the health and education of our kids. Children can’t achieve success in the classroom if they aren’t healthy.”
HHS estimates that 172,000 children in Michigan, and 5 million children across the country, are eligible for state and federal funded insurance programs, but are not enrolled.
