Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman John D. Dingell (D-MI15) criticized efforts to repeal the Patients’ Bill of Rights at the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health hearing, misleadingly entitled, Cutting the Red Tape: Saving Jobs from PPACA’s Harmful Regulations :
“Today’s hearing is yet another unfortunate attempt by my colleagues on the other side of the aisle to roll back the Patients Bill of Rights included in the Affordable Care Act,” said Dingell. “The MLR requirements, along with the grandfather health plan regulation, allow for health plans to transition to 2014 when the health insurance exchanges are up and running, and are reasonable, effective and achievable. My colleagues have proposed repealing these two requirements, removing the protections now being afforded to consumers under the Patients Bill of Rights. I believe these two bills are a direct despicable assault on the sick, the elderly, the disabled who most deserve protection and assurance they will have the care they need as they are wheeled into the ER and sadly, will let the insurers spend consumers hard-earned dollars with no accountability.”
