Washington, D.C. – Congressman John D. Dingell (D-MI15) sent a letter to Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski to request information about the Commission’s Allotment Optimization Model (AOM). The purpose of the AOM is to predict the outcome of voluntary incentive auctions of frequencies currently allotted to broadcast television.
“The Commission has asked the Congress for statutory authority to conduct incentive auctions,” said Dingell. “I feel it is important that my colleagues and I have access to the Commission’s predictive analysis of the effects of such auctions, particularly as they affect consumers’ ability to receive free, over-the-air broadcasting. I am not opposed to incentive auctions, but I need to be sure they are first voluntary and second do not unduly affect American consumers. Chairman Genachowski’s response will help me ascertain the extent of the latter.”
