Washington, DC - Congressman John D. Dingell (D-MI15) will return to Michigan next weekend for a week-long Congressional district work period. During that week, he will hold events throughout the 15th District to discuss his plans for the 111th Congress, including making it easier to join unions, helping those whose homes have been foreclosed, and an overhaul of our health care system. Additionally, it will be his first trip to Michigan since becoming the longest-serving Member in the history of the House of Representatives on February 11, 2009.
“It’s fine to talk about the past. We need to remember the things that have happened and I’m happy to share those memories. What is most important, however, is that we focus on the future and the problems in front of us,” Dingell said. “I don’t think my constituents want to see me dress up and head to parties. I think they want to talk about how we will solve our health care crisis, fix the Food and Drug Administration, and get our economy back on track.”
Details on the events are still being finalized, but Dingell plans on hosting a discussion on health care reform at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor on February 16, meeting with local farmers on February 17 in Dundee, joining with constituents for a telephone town hall on February 18, and participating in a February 19 event to highlight the innovative agreement reached between the University of Michigan and General Motors to establish an advanced automotive battery development and testing lab, focused on high-tech lithium-ion batteries. More details on those events will be released towards the end of the week and available on his website.
“The main reason I’ve been here so long is that I like working for the people of the 15th District,” Dingell said. “There is nothing I enjoy more that talking to my constituents and hearing their concerns and thoughts for the future.”
