Dingell on GM’s Loan Decision

Washington, DC - Congressman John D. Dingell (D-MI15) made the following comments after learning of the announcement from General Motors (GM) that the company will not need a $2-billion loan in March from the U.S. government, as it previously requested.

"I am heartened to learn that GM will not need the $2 billion it had originally request for March.  In my view, this indicates GM's viability plan is showing results, and the company is on the right path toward future profitability.  In light of this positive news in otherwise bleak economic times, we must continue to do all that is possible in order to ensure the continued viability of the domestic automotive industry.  Inaction will produce dire consequences for the Nation's already weakened economy."
