Dingell to Issue Guidebook for Helping Displaced Workers

Dearborn, MI - To assist displaced workers in Michigan, Congressman John D. Dingell (D-MI15) is making available a guidebook filled with information on unemployment benefits, food stamps, foreclosure assistance, free financial counseling, MichiganWorks! centers, retraining programs and other assistance designed to help people in this time of need.  Copies of The Displaced Worker Assistance and Training Opportunities Guidebook will be printed and distributed to United Auto Workers members at the General Motors Willow Run Transmission Plant in Ypsilanti Township, Michigan that was recently slated to be closed by GM.  The guidebook will also be e-mailed to local elected officials and a copy has been posted on the Congressman’s website at http://www.house.gov/dingell/pdf/displacedworkerguidebook.pdf.

“We heard from dozens of people ready to find a new opportunity, and they believe things will get better in Michigan, but they are painfully aware of how difficult this transition will be,” Congressman Dingell said. “While this guidebook may not replace a lost job, it is designed to help Michiganders pinpoint the people and organizations out there ready to help.”

The booklet is being sent to a local union printer and will also be available at the Congressman’s district offices as soon as possible.
