Dingell Applauds Foreclosure Task Force Day of Action

Washington, DC - Congressman John D. Dingell (D-MI15) praised the Michigan Foreclosure Task Force, the National Community Reinvestment Coalition, Detroit Alliance for Fair Banking, Kent County Foreclosure Response, and partners across the state for organizing today’s “Day of Action.”  The group scheduled meetings in Detroit, Lansing and Grand Rapids to call for additional measures to stop foreclosures and rebuild communities.

“I commend the efforts of Task Force and organizations that have joined with them to protect homeowners in our State struggling to hold onto their homes,” Dingell said. “We are working hard in Congress to protect our citizens from unscrupulous lenders.  We also want more opportunity for people to get back on their feet and find lenders willing to work with potential homeowners who can pay their mortgages and want to get their families into a home.  I hope our citizens take advantage of the Task Force’s resources and I applaud the energy and focus this group is bringing to this important issue.”

Congressman Dingell, supported H.R. 1728, the “Mortgage Reform and Anti-Predatory Lending Act”.  The bill outlaws many of the egregious industry practices that marked the subprime lending boom, and prevents borrowers from deliberately misstating their income to qualify for a loan.  In the past year, the Congressman’s office held two seminars - The Downriver Mortgage, Housing, and Foreclosure Forum and Save Your Savings: A Free Financial Advice and Counseling Forum – both of which were packed to capacity and served hundreds of constituents.
