Dingell on GM Decision to Locate New Plant in Michigan

Washington, DC - Congressman John D. Dingell (D-MI15) made the following comments on General Motors’ imminent announcement today that the company decided to locate its new small car plant in Lake Orion, Michigan.

“The people of Michigan are some of the brightest, hardest working, most skilled workers in the world and the decision by GM to build a new small car in Michigan is a reflection of Michigan’s world-class workforce. Corporations like GM and GE know that Michigan workers made history during the industrial revolution, the effort to win World War II and are poised to do it again as we enter a green revolution.  Today’s news is a show of faith and confidence that the people in our State are the best prepared to lead GM’s turnaround.  I want to thank GM for the commitment it is showing to our State.  Governor Jennifer Granholm, Congressman Gary Peters and the entire Michigan Delegation put forth a heroic effort to bring this plant to Lake Orion because we know that our workforce was the best selling point for our State; they deserve all the praise for this winning effort I can give them and then some.  I can promise you that we remain committed creating economic growth, giving opportunities to innovators and bringing more jobs to Michigan in the days, months and years to come.”
