Washington, DC - Congressman John D. Dingell (D-MI15) applauded the Department of Transportation’s decision to invest $8,000,000 to both rehabilitate and extend the western portion of Detroit Metro Airport’s taxiway. The Congressman made the following remarks about the grant:
“The Detroit Metropolitan Airport has long served as a valuable resource to the people of Wayne County,” Congressman Dingell said. “This grant will enable Metro Airport to continue growing while maintaining its commitment to safe and efficient airline travel. As a frequent flier from Metro Airport, I know first hand that it is the fine upkeep of Detroit Metro that earned this facility top ranking from J.D. Powers for customer service.”
Wayne County Airport Authority CEO Lester Robinson added: "This grant will provide partial funding for the reconstruction of Detroit Metro's Taxiways F, H and V. These important taxiways are located between the new North Terminal and the McNamara Terminal and are critical for aircraft accessing DTW's runways. This grant will also fund the extension of Taxiway G. This new pavement will provide a more efficient taxiing route between Runway 21L and the McNamara Terminal and will help reduce aircraft fuel consumption at DTW."
