Washington, DC - Almost a half-million residents in Michigan’s 15th Congressional District will see improvements to their insurance coverage, when the Democratic health insurance reform proposal passes. Congressman John D. Dingell (D-MI15) released those findings and others today in a new report by the House Energy and Commerce Committee. The health insurance reform legislation also makes health insurance affordable for all Americans by providing the largest middle-class tax cut for health care in history, assists small businesses obtain health insurance, and strengthens local health institutions, all while reducing the deficit.
“This bill will make insurance more affordable and accessible, while holding insurance companies more accountable,” Dingell said. “People have shared their health care stories on my Facebook page, and it really shows that regular American families, as well as businesses, are getting pummeled by out-of control costs. The Democratic health insurance reform proposal brings us closer to realizing my belief in universal access to health care making coverage a possibility for thousands, improving coverage for hundreds of thousands, and saving the lives of millions.”
Specifically this legislation benefits the 15th District by:
Improving health insurance coverage for 488,000 individuals;
Providing tax credits for 160,000 families and 11,600 small businesses;
Improving Medicare for 93,000 seniors by closing the donut hole and providing free preventative and wellness care;
Ensuring that pre-existing conditions will not bar 8,700 people from having access to healthcare coverage;
Allows 67,000 young adults to stay on their parent’s insurance plans;
Providing grants to 7 community health centers;
Saving 182 million dollars per year on the cost of uncompensated care; and
