Washington, DC - Congressman John D. Dingell (D-MI15) offered his condolences to the family of West Virginia Senator Robert Byrd (D) who passed away this morning. He made the following remarks on the legendary Senator.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the Byrd family and the people of West Virginia. The laws of the United States and the rules of the Senate would not be what they are without Robert Byrd’s skill and his strong desire to do what was right for his nation. His working knowledge of the Senate and its procedures will be missed. Senator Byrd leaves with us a legacy of service that bore witness to some of the great changes which have come to redefine our nation. He was a tenacious defender and advocate for the working class, as well as an astute and thoughtful voice.
“It gives me great comfort to know that Senator Byrd is now with his beloved wife Erma. He was a true giant and he leaves behind him a distinguished lifetime of service to his state and our nation.”
