Dearborn, Mich. – Today, U.S. Representative John D. Dingell (D-MI15) met with the Washtenaw County Cyber Citizenship Coalition (WC4) at the Washtenaw Intermediate School District to discuss how the federal government and the coalition can work together to protect citizens from being victims of cyber attacks and predators.
“As Internet access grows and our society continues to go online for work, play, and everything in between, it is incumbent upon our elected officials and community leaders to lead the charge in cybersecurity.” said Dingell. “Cybersecurity has been identified as one of the most serious economic and national security challenges we face as a nation. WC4 is to be commended for raising awareness of this issue and should a model for other communities around the nation.”
During today’s meeting, Dingell provided the group with an update on what the federal government is doing to protect and educate the public on cyber crime threats. In turn, he listened to the coalition on the issues, needs, and challenges they are facing. Dingell also commended Commissioner Judge for taking a lead role in educating the public to be good cyber citizens and how to protect themselves from cyber threats. During the meeting, they discussed the role of the federal government in protecting critical infrastructure and children alike from the threats they face- whether from sophisticated hackers or online predators.
Congressman Dingell has been a longtime leading federal watchdog and he pledged to work on this critical issue in the 112th Congress. He continues vigorous oversight in the 112th Congress to ensure that helpful community coalitions have the manpower, resources and tools to keep our communities safe.
