Dingell Congratulates Congressional Arts Competition Winners

Dearborn, MI – This week, U.S. Representative John D. Dingell (D-MI15) congratulated all of the students who took part in the 30th Congressional Arts Competition “Artistic Discovery”.  Special recognition was offered to several students for their work.  The winners of the annual competition were selected at the final judging at Taylor City Hall in Taylor, Michigan.  A total of fifty students from twelve area high schools participated in this year’s competition and produced sixty-nine pieces of art.

“It gives me great pleasure to announce the winners of the 15th District Arts Competition this year,” said Dingell.   “I offer my congratulations to Rachel Krzyske of Carleton, who took top honors for her entry, ‘Mimi and Pipi’s Shed’; Courtney Greca of Monroe, who took second place for her self portrait entitled ‘Individuality’; and third place winner Emily Carrillo of Brownstown Township for her digital photography of a girl holding a book with a fireworks display.  Art is such a beautiful form of self expression and can expand perspectives.  I am so pleased to see the growing enthusiasm of high school participants this year as well as the unique talent each artist displays.  I am impressed by the level of detail and skill displayed and I commend all of the students for their remarkable artwork.”

Rachel Krzyske, the first place winner, will have her winning work displayed in the underground corridor connecting the US Capitol to the Cannon House Office Building for one year starting this June.

In the corridor, the artist’s work will be viewed by Members of Congress and thousands of tourists as they travel to and from the Capitol.  The artist and a parent or guardian will be invited to Washington DC for the Capitol exhibition’s opening ceremony.  The artwork of Courtney Greca and Emily Carrillo will be proudly displayed in Congressman Dingell’s Washington DC office through June 2012, where visitors from all over the world will have the opportunity to appreciate the talents of these fine young artists from Michigan’s 15th Congressional District.

Also honored at the competition were Ahmed Ghamloush from Dearborn High School and Rana Hammoud from the Michael Berry Career Center.  They were both recipients of scholarships to the College for Creative Studies (CCS) for submission of artwork as well as their acceptance into the program at CCS.
