Washington, D.C. –Today, U.S. Representative John D. Dingell (D-MI15) issued the following statement on the GOP’s maneuver to pass the Ryan budget without a true vote:
“Today, I voted against the GOP effort to slip in a rule to “deem and pass” Paul Ryan’s GOP budget, which privatizes Medicare for future beneficiaries. Sly cynical politics do not belong in the Medicare debate.
“I understand our budget deficit needs urgent work better than most, but it outrages me that the other side of the aisle would furtively try to privatize Medicare while at the same time keeping tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans. These shenanigans have to stop and I urge my Republican colleagues to get serious about addressing the deficit.
“The Congressional Budget Process should not be manipulated to recklessly take away benefits from future Medicare beneficiaries.”
