Washington, D.C.– Congressman John D. Dingell today announced his new leadership team. The team includes experienced Michiganians in new roles in Congressman Dingell’s congressional office.
Katie Murtha will lead the Washington D.C. congressional office as the Chief of Staff. Currently serving as Deputy Chief of Staff and Legislative Director in Congressman Dingell’s office, Katie brings more than a decade of public service in Congressman Dingell’s office to the Chief of Staff role. A native Michiganian originally from Allen Park and a graduate of the University of Michigan and Georgetown University’s Master's program, Katie’s time has been dedicated to working on issues related to protecting jobs and the economy. She has worked for the recovery of the auto industry, as well as to ensure Michigan is strategically placed to engineer and manufacture the technology of the future. This includes supporting new opportunities for advanced battery research and development. Katie has spent the last several years serving as the chief advisor to the Congressman in his work toward a balanced approach in our national energy and environmental policy, finding innovative ways of protecting jobs while also protecting human health and the environment. In her new role, Katie will continue fighting to bring new job opportunities to Southeast Michigan
Replacing Katie as Legislative Director is Kimberlee Trzeciak, who is currently Senior Legislative Advisor to Congressman Dingell. Also a native of Allen Park, Michigan, Kim began working for the people of Southeast Michigan in Congressman Dingell’s office in 2005 and her current legislative portfolio includes health care and transportation, two issues of vital importance to Michigan. Kim has worked with the Congressman to secure $13.9 million in federal funding for the Ann Arbor Bridges project, to conduct vigorous oversight of critical infrastructure projects in Southeast Michigan, to advance the development of high speed rail and improvements at Detroit Metro Airport, and to monitor the implementation of the Congressman’s key health care initiatives including the Affordable Care Act and the Food Safety Modernization Act. In her new role, she will continue to work with healthcare providers throughout Southeast Michigan, including the University of Michigan Healthcare System, Oakwood Hospital and Medical Center and Henry Ford Health Systems to ensure they remain at the forefront of healthcare in this country. Kim has a Bachelor’s degree in Public and Corporate Communication from Butler University and a Master’s degree in Government from Johns Hopkins University.
At home in the district office, taking over as District Administrator is Ken Brock. As previously announced, Ken will lead the Dearborn, Ypsilanti and Monroe offices, and most recently served as Chief of Staff to former Representative Mark Schauer (D-MI07). Working out of Schauer’s Michigan offices, Ken served for two years as the Congressman’s top advisor and led the office overseeing all operations for the first-term member. Ken also spent six years leading Schauer’s Lansing office in the Michigan Senate, supervising personal and caucus staff in campaign and caucus strategies. Prior to his work in the Michigan Senate, Ken worked in public affairs consulting and political campaign management. Ken was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and is a graduate from Albion College.
Katie Murtha takes over as Chief of Staff for Michael Robbins, who will soon be departing the Hill to lead the government affairs department at the Air Line Pilots Association. Michael, a Trenton, Michigan native, worked for Congressman Dingell for a decade, including the last five years as Chief of Staff. Ken Brock took over the District Director role recently after Andy LaBarre, also of Ann Arbor, Michigan, joined the Ann Arbor-Ypsilanti Chamber of Commerce also as the head of government affairs.
The new leadership team continues a Dingell tradition of having experienced Michiganians leading his Congressional office. Said Dingell: “Fighting for the people of Michigan’s 15th District, as well as delivering top-notch constituent service is my highest priority and I am very pleased that with the new leadership team in place, my office will continue to deliver the highest-quality service to the people we serve.”
