Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative John D. Dingell (D-MI15) issued following statement applauding President Obama’s call to restore the middle class, the backbone of our country:
“I appreciate the President’s taking time to speak to the American people today. The United States is in dire straits, and we can ill afford to dally on pressing matters that require serious action by Congress. Now is the time for our federal representatives and all of us– regardless of political creed – to come together for the benefit of our country.
“We must get down to business and respond to the needs of the country. Our nation’s crippling debt and the gaping inequality between the wealthy and poor are putting the democracy at risk, the democracy for which our forbearers gave their lives. We must reaffirm the American dream – that if you work hard and play by the rules, you can be successful.
“I stand with President Obama because he and I both recognize that together we will prosper, but divided the great dreams of our Nation will perish.”
