Dingell Pays Tribute to Betty Ford

Oct 12, 2012

Ann Arbor, MI – On Thursday, October 11, U.S. Representative John D. Dingell (D-MI15) and Mrs. Debbie Dingell paid tribute to former First Lady, Betty Ford, at the University of Michigan’s Rackham Auditorium.  The Congressman spoke very fondly of the revolutionary woman who was a leading figure in the fight against breast cancer, substance abuse, and an advocate for women’s rights.  Although Betty passed away last July, her spirit, integrity, and conviction will continue to live on through her work.

“I’m honored to pay tribute to Betty Ford, who, I’m proud to say, was a good friend of Debbie’s and mine.  Betty fought very hard and very successfully to raise awareness of breast cancer.  She also spoke very passionately about equal rights for women, something I have supported for my entire career.  At the end of the day, my friends, they didn’t call her the ‘Fighting First Lady’ for nothing.”
