Dingell Urges Congress to Prevent Tax Increases on Middle Class
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman John D. Dingell (D-MI15) reiterated his call for both parties in Congress to work together in order to extend current tax rates for the middle class.
“Middle class families and our economy can’t afford a tax hike,” said Dingell. “Congress needs to act in a bipartisan fashion to protect the middle class, ensure the wealthiest pay their fair share, and sustain the economic growth our country needs.”
According to a new White House report, the expiration of current tax rates for the middle class will have a negative impact on consumer spending and retailers. The Senate has passed a bill that would extend all income tax cuts benefitting families who make less than $250,000 per year. President Obama, along with Mr. Dingell and Congressional Democrats, strongly support this proposal and call on Republican Members to act immediately to extend tax cuts for 98 percent of American families.
