Arts Competition 2010

Congressman Dingell is pleased to announce that plans for the 2010 15th District Congressional Arts Competition are under way. The contest, “An Artistic Discovery,” provides an excellent opportunity to inspire and acknowledge the artistic talents of our tremendously gifted young people.

Established by Members of the House of Representatives in 1982, the Congressional Arts Competition is a annual nationwide event that allows high school students from the fifty states, the District of Columbia, and the territories to showcase their artistic ability. The winning artwork from each congressional district is displayed in an eleven-month exhibit in the tunnel from the Cannon House Office Building to the United States Capitol. The winner and his or her family are invited to Washington, D.C., for the artwork unveiling. In past years, students have also had the opportunity to win a $5,000 renewable scholarship to the College for Creative Studies (CCS) or an Artistic Honors Scholarship from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), in the amount of $1,500 per year, which is offered to first place winners in the Congressional Arts Competition who apply and are accepted to SCAD.

2010 Arts Competition Guidelines:

  • The competition is open to high school students.
  • All artwork must be framed according to the appropriate framing guidelines, listed below:

  • Each entry must be original in concept, design, and execution and may not violate any U.S. copyright laws. Work entered must be in the original medium (that is, not a scanned reproduction of a painting or drawing).
  • Artwork must arrive in Washington by May 24, 2010 for inclusion in display.
